Back2nature gardening services in Brighton

We provide a gardening service to clients in Brighton and Hove throughout the year. The following is a season by season list of gardening jobs:

Winter

Shrubs and trees can be pruned. Compost can be spread around fruit trees and perennial plants.
You can make leaf mould – a wonderful, natural mulch – though collecting all those leaves on a windy day can try anyone’s patience! Cover any plants that may be susceptible to frost.

Spring

When the last frost has passed dead-head flowers to encourage new blossoms. Reapply mulch, where needed, to perennial plants. Begin or maintain the compost heap and, when ready, spread the compost onto your flower beds. When it’s warmer apply grass seed, where needed, to improve the quality of your lawn. The seed should be mixed with compost, topsoil and lawn sand. Protect young seedlings from late frost or wait a few weeks before planting out, if the weather is cold.

Summer

Watering in dry spells and lots of weeding. Dead-head any plants, shrubs or trees that have already bloomed. Roses will probably bloom a second time if dead-headed properly. Prune any spring flowering trees such as Forsythia.

Autumn

Spread mulch around perennial plants ready for the winter. Add more wood chips to areas that become thinner. Continue making compost. Protect any sensitive plants from frost.
